Water Screen Projection at City Walk, Jeddah

City Walk is one of Jeddah Season’s entertainment areas, bringing together live performances, visitor attractions, restaurants and cafés. The water screen project adds projected imagery and illuminated water effects to this setting.

The installation follows a straight line within the lake area. Forty vertical jets create the water display, while projection equipment faces the jet array. This arrangement allows images and animated content to appear on the rising water and spray.

The project combines hydraulic equipment, video projection, show lasers, and fountain lighting. Each system contributes a different element: the jets form the display medium, projectors deliver visual content, and lighting and lasers add colour and graphic effects.

A Water Screen Formed by 40 Vertical Jets

The water screen uses 40 straight-jet nozzles distributed along a 32 m line. Water rises from these individual nozzle positions to a specified height of 20 m, forming the display used for projection.

Ten 22 kW submersible pumps supply the jet array. Ten variable-frequency drives regulate pump speed, while ball valves provide local flow adjustment along the line.

The fountain specification uses 304 stainless steel for the nozzles, pipework, fittings, and pump housings. The fountain layout drawing brings the water jets, lighting positions, projectors, and show lasers into one coordinated arrangement.

Video Projection on the Water Display

The projection specification combines four laser projectors with a media playback and edge-blending server. Each projector has a specified native resolution of 1920 × 1200, with long-throw lenses selected for the projection arrangement.

The media server manages visual content, geometric correction, and image blending. Two temperature-controlled enclosures are specified for the four projectors, with two units accommodated in each enclosure.

The 32 m jet line and 20 m spray height describe the water display. The projected image area is defined separately through the optical layout, lens selection, and content configuration.

RGBW Lighting, Show Lasers and Control

The fountain lighting system includes 80 DMX512 RGBW fixtures, each rated at 48 W and powered by DC24V. Positioned along the jet line, these fixtures illuminate the water columns and provide both coloured and white-light effects.

Three 20 W full-colour show lasers form a separate effects system alongside the video projectors. Dedicated laser software manages their programmed displays.

Fountain control software manages the hydraulic system, while the projection control specification supports timecode and DMX communication. These interfaces provide the means to coordinate media playback with lighting and other show equipment.
