Boulevard Riyadh City Dancing Fountain Project, Saudi Arabia

The Boulevard Riyadh City fountain was developed for the Garden area of Riyadh Season 2021. Installed in a Ø30 m circular pool, the fountain uses a radial, flower-shaped composition built around a central high jet, 2D swinging jets, and a dense field of sequential running jets.

Water movement, DMX lighting, music, and centralized show control are integrated into one system, allowing the circular fountain to perform as a complete visual composition rather than a single front-facing water feature.

A Flower-Shaped Fountain for Boulevard Riyadh City

The fountain layout follows a circular radial structure that reads as a flower when viewed as a complete composition.

Instead of arranging the nozzles in parallel rows, the system is organized in layers. A high central jet establishes the vertical focal point, 2D swinging jets form the moving inner layer, while hundreds of running jets create the larger radial pattern across the pool.

This arrangement is particularly suited to the open viewing conditions at Boulevard Riyadh City, where visitors approach the fountain from multiple directions rather than from a fixed audience position.

Three Water Layers with Different Functions

The fountain is not based on a large number of identical nozzles operating together. Its show structure is divided into three principal water-effect systems, each with clearly distinct roles.

Central High Jet

The central jet forms the highest point of the composition and provides a clear visual axis for the circular fountain.

According to the project equipment schedule, the central system uses a dedicated high-flow nozzle supplied by two 45 kW fountain pumps. Its design spray height is approximately 45–50 metres.

18 Independently Driven 2D Swing Jets

Around the central area are 18 two-dimensional swing units.

Each unit has its own pump and numerical swing mechanism, allowing the water columns to move through programmed directions rather than simply varying in height.

This moving layer breaks the symmetry of the static circular arrangement and provides the principal directional movement during musical sequences.

310 Chasing Running Jets for Dense Sequential Patterns

The largest part of the hydraulic system is formed by 310 running jets distributed through the radial layout.

The running-jet network uses 310 solenoid valves and 31 dedicated fountain pumps, allowing groups of jets to rise, fall, and progress around the pool in programmed sequences.

This system is responsible for much of the fountain’s visual density. Instead of relying solely on several large water columns, hundreds of smaller jets can be combined to create waves, radial movement, and rapid, rhythmic changes.

Lighting Designed Around the Water Effects

The lighting system follows the hydraulic layout rather than operating as a separate decorative layer.

The project equipment schedule includes approximately 390 DMX512 underwater lights distributed across the central jet, 2D swing units, and the running-jet system.

This arrangement allows lighting changes to follow individual fountain zones and programmed water movements, helping the flower-shaped layout remain readable during nighttime performances.

Music and Centralized Show Control

The fountain was equipped with a dedicated sound and control system for synchronized musical performances.

Rather than controlling pumps, lighting, and music as separate installations, the system allows these elements to be coordinated through programmed show sequences.

From Equipment Layout to On-Site Installation

Implementing a dense circular layout required accurate positioning of the nozzle groups, pipelines, pumps, lighting, and control connections according to the approved fountain plan.

Boulevard Riyadh City was one of the principal zones of Riyadh Season 2021. Saudi Press Agency coverage from the period specifically listed the dancing fountain among the area’s attractions and described fountain shows synchronized with laser lighting, colours, and music.

Contemporary Saudi reports also independently documented the Garden Fountain’s flower-shaped layout, approximately 310 vertical jets and 18 dancing nozzles.
