People’s Square Musical Fountain Project, Egypt’s New Administrative Capital

The musical fountain at People’s Square in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital follows a ring-shaped basin around the central flagpole platform. Six fountain effect types combine moving water, underwater lighting, and sound within approximately 3,000 m² of water surface.

A Musical Fountain in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital

People’s Square is a civic and ceremonial space in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, set among the government district, parliamentary buildings, and presidential institutions. The central flagpole is a defining feature of the square, where Egyptian reporting also identifies a dancing fountain and evening music.

The fountain occupies the curved water basin surrounding the raised flagpole platform. Stepped seating follows the outer edge, placing the water display between the central landmark and the surrounding public space.

Its design combines dual-axis moving effects, running jets, laminar streams, peacock-tail arrays, rotating flower jets, and air explosion effects. These groups introduce different forms of movement and water texture along the circular arrangement.

Ring-Shaped Fountain Layout Around the Flagpole

The fountain equipment follows the curvature of the basin around the central flagpole platform. Multiple rows accommodate the different effect groups, with their positions coordinated around the access bridge and the surrounding architecture.

Moving assemblies and fan-shaped patterns are distributed at intervals along the basin. Running jets provide sequences along the curved rows, while laminar, rotating, and air-powered effects add contrasting forms of movement.

The approximately 3,000 m² measurement covers the water surface within this ring-shaped basin. The central flagpole platform, surrounding steps, and paved areas are outside that measurement.

Six Water Effects Within the Circular Fountain

The fountain combines moving jet assemblies with sequential, laminar, rotating, and air-powered effects. Each group contributes a different pattern to the display while following the same curved basin.

Effect TypeConfigurationDisplay Character
Dual-Axis Motion Effects40 dual-axis swivel drives (2D), with three-wing configurationsChanges in jet direction using straight, peacock-tail, and flat-fan nozzle configurations
Running Jets160 jet nozzlesSequential water patterns along the curved rows
Laminar Jets40 units with integrated RGB lightingSmooth, defined streams of water
Peacock-Tail Arrays306 individual nozzlesMultiple streams arranged into fan-shaped patterns
Rotating Flower Jets19 unitsRotating clusters of water streams
Air Explosion Effects41 unitsShort, forceful bursts of water

Dual-Axis Movement in Close-Up

The close-up views show peacock-tail and fan-shaped effects mounted on the moving assemblies. Their nozzle configurations shape the water, while the dual-axis swivel drives change its direction.

This combination introduces movement within each fountain group, complementing the sequences created by the running jets around the basin.

Fountain Equipment and Material Specifications

The project specification uses 304 stainless steel for the fountain nozzles, moving assemblies, pipework, and underwater light housings. These components are distributed around the basin to serve the different water effects.

The hydraulic configuration includes 97 submersible pumps across 4 kW, 5.5 kW, and 11 kW ratings. Separate pumping groups serve the moving, running, laminar, peacock-tail, and rotating effects.

Air explosion effects use a dedicated pneumatic system comprising a 30 kW compressor and two 4 m³ air receivers. This system supplies the 41 air-powered units positioned within the fountain layout.

Underwater Lighting and Musical Fountain Control

The lighting system includes 866 separate DMX512 underwater fixtures: 560 rated at 18 W and 306 rated at 9 W. The 40 laminar units also incorporate their own RGB lighting.

Distributed lighting defines the individual water patterns around the basin. From an elevated viewpoint, the illuminated fountain groups make the curved arrangement visible around the central flagpole platform.

The control specification combines variable-frequency drives, moving assemblies, valves and fountain software to manage water movement and programmed sequences. DMX512 provides control of the underwater lighting.

The audio system includes 32 outdoor line-array loudspeakers and eight subwoofers, supported by amplification, mixing and digital audio processing equipment. Together, these systems provide the water, lighting and sound infrastructure for the musical fountain.
