Jeddah Season 2022 · Approx. 1,000 m² Water Surface · Water, Light and Flame Effects

City Walk Dancing Fountain Project, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Developed for Jeddah Season 2022, the City Walk dancing fountain in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia occupies a curved basin with approximately 1,000 m² of water surface. The system combines high jets, single-axis moving effects, running sequences, and gas flame jets with DMX-controlled underwater lighting.

A Dancing Fountain for Jeddah Season 2022

City Walk was one of the main entertainment destinations of Jeddah Season 2022 in Saudi Arabia. The venue brought together themed attractions, live performances, restaurants, and shops within a large outdoor entertainment setting.

The fountain occupies a curved pool facing a viewing plaza, with a large LED screen behind it. Water effects extend across the basin, creating a foreground of moving jets and illuminated patterns within the surrounding entertainment space.

The design combines eight water effect types with gas flame accents. Its arrangement includes central and side effect groups, curved rows of sequential jets and low fan-shaped patterns.

Curved Pool and Fountain Layout

The fountain layout follows the broad curve of the basin at City Walk, with its water effects arranged toward the viewing plaza. A central group and two circular side groups establish the main positions, while several rows of equipment extend along the front of the pool.

Three high-jet positions provide vertical accents across the basin. Moving and rotary effects add changes in direction, while the running and geyser groups support sequences along the jet rows.

Low fan-shaped effects and broader peacock-tail patterns add further variation in height and water texture.

Eight Water Effects and Gas Flame Accents

The fountain combines directional movement, sequential jets, and contrasting water patterns. Each effect group has its own equipment configuration and design height.

Moving and Sequential Effects

The 16 single-axis swivel drives change the direction of their water streams. Circular swing groups and rotary jets provide additional movement, while individually valved running and geyser jets support switching sequences across the basin.

Peacock-tail arrays create broader fan patterns, and the low fan-shaped jets add a separate layer near the water surface.

Gas Flame Accents

Twelve gas flame units are included in the system specification, with a design flame height of 3 m. Dedicated ignition and valve connections allow these effects to operate alongside the water groups.

On-Site Construction and Fountain Installation

The installation stage brings the fountain’s mechanical, lighting and control components together within the curved basin. The layout provides positions for the central and side effect groups, with pipework, pumping circuits and cable connections serving the different water patterns.

Moving assemblies require positioning and nozzle-direction adjustments, while the sequential effects connect individual valves to their control circuits. Underwater lights are distributed among the corresponding jet groups.

The construction photographs document the City Walk fountain project before its completed nighttime presentation.

Underwater Lighting and Fountain Control

The lighting specification includes 959 DMX512 underwater fixtures distributed across the eight water effect groups. These lights illuminate the high jets, moving streams, circular groups and running sequences throughout the basin.

A dedicated computer and fountain control software support programmed operation through 12 control cabinets. Signal amplifiers and fibre-optic links distribute control signals, while 54 variable-frequency drives regulate selected pump groups.

The hydraulic configuration comprises 71 submersible pumps. Solenoid valves provide switching control for the running, geyser, and other valved effects.

Stainless Steel Equipment

The project specifies 304 stainless steel for the water nozzles and fountain pipework, with stainless steel housings for the pumps and underwater lights. Equipment and connections are organised by effect group to serve the different water patterns within the curved layout.
