Project Overview

The Lenin Square fountain opened on 15 August 2025 as part of a public-space improvement project in central Baikonur. The renewal combined the fountain with upgraded paving, benches and planting containers, creating a setting for residents and visitors to gather and enjoy the performances.

Local coverage highlighted the fountain’s connection with Baikonur’s spaceflight heritage. Its musical programme incorporated archival spaceflight audio and themed music, giving the display a recognisable connection to the city.

A 40 × 20 m Fountain Layout

The fountain plan combines a central circular composition with diagonal jet lines extending towards the corners and additional jets around the rectangular perimeter.

This arrangement creates several distinct areas within the display: a central focal point, outward-reaching lines and an enclosing perimeter. The different groups provide a framework for sequences that move attention between the centre and the wider fountain footprint.

The drawing below shows the overall arrangement and its relationship to the 40 × 20 m installation area.

Seven Water-Effect Groups

The project electrical schedule identifies seven water-effect groups. These combine vertical jets, aerated water, changing patterns, directional movement, and sequential activation.

Water EffectRole in the Display
Central High JetCreates a vertical focal point within the central composition.
Column JetsProduce substantial upright water columns.
Foam JetsAdd aerated white-water effects and a contrasting texture.
Variable-Pattern JetsChange the water formation during the display.
Single-Axis Swinging JetsMove water streams through a controlled sweep in one plane.
Rotating Flower-Basket JetsIntroduce rotating ornamental water patterns.
Chasing JetsCreate running sequences through successive jet activation.

Together, these groups give the musical programme a range of water shapes and movements, from upright compositions to sweeping and sequential effects.

On-Site Installation

The installation photographs document the on-site work behind the completed fountain. The 40 × 20 m plan provides a reference for the central feature, surrounding jet lines, and separate water-effect groups.

Across this layout, the equipment arrangement brings together water delivery, lighting, and electrical control connections. The site records complement the plan and completed-project photographs, showing the fountain during its installation stage.

Lighting and Water-Effect Control

The electrical configuration combines variable-frequency pump control, solenoid-operated water circuits, and stepper-driven moving effects.

Variable-frequency drives regulate pump operation, while solenoid valves switch the relevant water circuits. Stepper motors are specified for the variable-pattern, single-axis swinging and rotating flower-basket groups.

RGB lighting adds colour to the water display. The rotating flower-basket units specifically include DMX512-controlled lighting in the electrical schedule.

Together, these groups give the musical programme a range of water shapes and movements, from upright compositions to sweeping and sequential effects.

SystemProject Configuration
Pump ControlVariable-frequency drives
Water-Circuit SwitchingSolenoid valves
Moving-Effect DrivesStepper motors
LightingRGB fixtures, including DMX512-controlled lighting within the rotating flower-basket units
Pump Power SupplyThree-phase, 380 V, 50 Hz

Completed Fountain at Lenin Square

The completed fountain places the central circular feature and surrounding jet lines within the open setting of Lenin Square. Changes in water pattern and lighting give the same layout different appearances throughout the performance.
